In Transition

I'm in the middle seat on a short flight reading the book that I always read immediately after finishing a really good book. The aperitif of books. Like the sweetness of an after dinner drink that lessens the disappointment of a completed meal, this quick, heart reaching, intimate read always leaves me ready to take on another story.

I look over as the plane descends and I see the setting sun and surrounding golden clouds reflecting in a large lake. "Wow, that's a large lake out there" I think to myself. And I remember the name of my connecting city. I've been here before but have never left  he airport. Utah isn't at the top of my list of states to visit but I can easily imagine why people come here. I's breathtaking from above and I wonder what I'm missing and think maybe I should see it from the ground sometime. But like so many things that deserve to be explored, I must continue passing through without a second glance.

I'm back

Sometimes you just have to start. Restart and restart again. Like with physical exercise when I've lost my flexibility but every my body aches so for a good stretch that I can't avoid my yoga mat for one second longer.  That feeling is in me again.

This time for writing. I can't avoid it any longer. Stories and ideas are brewing and I am finally feeling the urge to the time to get them out. During a season in my life when busy seems to be my default state the storytelling, feelings sharing part of me has become a noisy voice in my head and I've decided to heed it's call to put my thoughts out there again.

So here I am again. After quite a long while away. This time with a new name and a simple look. This time with a little less fear and a little more intention to share my voice.

Weekend Reading

Happy Friday! After a wonderful weekend celebrating my cousin's wedding it's been a rough week getting back in the swing of things. I'm looking forward to a low key weekend. Here's a few light hearted stories I've seen this week.

She calls it "13 genius tips for decorating a small space" I call it my perfect apartment. "Wallpaper, gallery wall and bookshelves OH MY!"

I'm in the market for a new moisturizer and the one Natalie recommends seems like a good contender.

How to cozy up this winter, the Danish way.

My new dream destination, a bike path!

Speaking of bikes, here are some very important tips to keep you bike secure when you're not around.

I love this argument, "eating Paleo ain't all steaks and bacon"!

One of my favorite bloggers released her online shop today. I want everything.

Have a lovely weekend friends!

Procrastination

A paper is due tomorrow so I am inevitably scouring the depths of the internet to do something (anything!) other than write. But look what I found!

I am obsessed.

Weekend Reading

Happy Halloween! What are you up to tonight? I'm looking forward to stopping by a friend's party and probably doing a bit of bar hopping but most of all I cant wait to see the creative costumes that people come up with. I've found that when the holiday falls on a weekend it's the perfect excuse to go all out. Here's hoping the rain calls it quits by witching hour! What are you going to be?

I often think and write about the difficulties of simply getting through. This beautiful article about self acceptance sums up the major themes I've been working with lately. "What a lot of people now identify as “major life problems” are really the natural ebbs and flows of life. Sometimes you’re up and sometimes you’re down, and for some reason, we seem to have forgotten that that’s OK."

Now that I'm back in school, I found this account of a teacher's experience as a student particularly fascinating.

I have started experimenting with "natural" deodorants. I haven't found one that works incredibly well yet (sorry for all those that come in contact with me), but I made this one the other day and am giving it a try. Will report back.

Yay Mercury Retrograde is over! Here are some things you can get back to doing (safely).

For if you're thinking: What is this mercury retrograde you speak of?

And, my favorite website to answer the question "Is Mercury in retrograde right now?"

I love these old photographs of 1950's San Francisco.

In college I was a major supporter of Pink October, but as Breast Cancer Awareness month comes to a close I leave this alarming article as proof that buying pink things is not going to help us find a cure.

Have a lovely fall weekend!

Weekend Reading

It's been a busy few weeks. I spent an entire weekend at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, played tour guide to a friend from Kansas, recommitted to my yoga practice and basked in the last few days of our San Francisco Indian Summer. I return from the land of too much fun and not enough homework with some good stuff I've found over the last few weeks.

More on our ancestors, this time it's all about sleep. (I think I'm seeing a theme in these weekly recaps.)

Anyone else on ello? I don't know what I'm doing but I like it.

I admit I was surprised by one of the key players in the early San Francisco gay movement.

“At what point is one considered emotionally unstable? Like, be specific.” And other thoughts every woman starts having in her 20s.

In preparation for my halloween costume I actually googled this today. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it.

I absolutely love these digital renditions of Disney classics.

A moving article with a provocative title, about the essential nature of relationships.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mid-Week Meditation

I'm a bit late to this week's mediation. Instead of a guided meditation this week I thought this article would be nice to refer back to from time to time for insight on some meditating basics.

I particularly love 4. Take your meditation to go- Taking one breath with each step really forces you to slow down and be present. I've done it in a park a few times and I enjoy the added benefit of more time to take in beautiful surroundings.

One of the best tools for this is a labyrinth. There are several in the city that I have yet to use but have so much desire to. Here's hoping this inspires me to take a little meditation field trip soon.

What do you think about the article? Have you ever done a walking meditation?
